Chris started recording 12 years ago on the Sunshine Coast. He learnt to record out of necessity, as a component of the underground music community there was no one else to document what was happening accurately. He later studied and obtained a Diploma in audio engineering. When he was 20 he opened Sun Distortion on the north side of Brisbane, which was a large studio that doubled as a live music venue and art gallery.
When Sun Distortion closed its doors in 2014, he freelanced for a term until being selected to attend a seminar in France with Steve Albini and Greg Norman. He returned to build and experiment with Undergrounds first form in 2015 in West End, and has then since upgraded to a new space.
Chris is a firm believe in the band or artist being the best judge of themselves and takes on a more utilitarian role as an engineer. This allows whoever is being documented complete control and the space they need to make music whilst all the technical minutiae and problem solving is taken care of.
As an active musician himself, he plays in the Brisbane based band Idylls.
His recording style has evolved naturally from his dedication to and love for music. Chris lives and breathes his work.
Below is a list of some of the bands he has worked with:
Death and Destruction
Me Minus You
Walter P Humphray
Siberian Hell Sounds
Flesh and Below
Motion Picture Actress
Sete Star Sept
Deer Lord / Low Season
True Radical Miracle
